From Typhoon-Torn Stillness to Camellia Comeback
15 December 2025

The ferocity of last summer’s super typhoons and black rainstorms hit the WYK campus hard, many old and towering trees were either seriously injured, or completely lost. In their absence, the landscape felt both exposed and strangely quiet – until we turned that grief into action.
In the wake of destruction, new roots take hold. We launched a fundraising effort to rebuild what the storms took and to restore the shared green space that hold our community together. Thanks to the generosity of our alumni across generations – from the 1970s through 2000s – we reached the kind of support that made renewal possible. A portion of these gifts were dedicated specifically to supporting our new group planting of flowering shrubs, Camellia – exactly at where the Brisbane Box (紅膠木) once stood.
Camellia was selected for more than its enduring beauty – in the long run, it’s sustainable and resilient enough to meet the seasons ahead. Thank you to every donor who helped make this renewal possible.
And the work isn’t finished: our group planting is still open. If you would like to contribute:
