A Summer of Super Typhoons, Rainstorms, and Splintered Landscape
30 November 2025

Two super typhoons and five black rainstorms in summer 2025 felled numerous big old trees on campus. Whole trunks went down; large branches snapped; and in the chaos, some campus facilities like the Swimming Pool Pump Room suffered damage.
The greening areas – once calm with tranquil beauty – now stands as a ledger of loss, with facilities strained by cleanup and repair. While donors answered our urgent call, the work of mitigation in the aftermath of several bad storms proved costly: many trees fell in difficult terrain on a slope or within confined campus areas with limited access.
Removing and securing large trunks required careful rigging and specialised operations, including crane support, to keep both infrastructure as well as people safe. With maintenance continuing long after the storms, the burden doesn’t end when the debris is cleared.
If you feel the pull to help, join hands with us in this long-term mission of sustaining our green space, restoring what the storms broke, and keeping every path safe for all who pass through.
